Even with the destruction proclaimed, there is still an invitation to turn, to avert disaster...

The Day of the Lord (Prezi)

2. An era of emerging righteousness telescoping out throughout history
3. A recurring dynamic, God’s ongoing judgment of His people·

When Peter describes the events of Acts chapter 2, he evokes the memory in the mind of any Jewish believer the words of the prophet Joel; Who's name means ("Jehovah is God", or "to whom Jehovah is God") There are recurring themes in the book titled after the writer Joel:

1. the Day of the Lord
2. Repentance
3. The Promise of God dwelling with His people
4. The future outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Jesus was killed (and rose again!) at Passover, the Feast of First Fruits. The Holy Spirit came to dwell within the believing church at Pentecost, the Feast of Latter First Fruits. The promises, embodied in the Old Testament events, are fulfilled in the New Testament events; and continue to be realized in the present day!
