Jesus did it on purpose. There was no evidence offered the night Jesus was 'convicted' of saying that He was God, except for His own testimony in response to the question "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" Jesus warns the reader about circumstances that will come, so that we will not freak out if we see those days. "When you see..." implies that someone 'will see'.  This expectancy fuels our resolve to be disciple making disciples today, and for those believers present during the end times to NOT lose it when the last-days tribulation comes upon the earth.  There is great hope for those who overcome the challenges of those days.

In around 30 AD, Jesus correctly predicts the future event which we know occurred in 70AD and goes further to declare yet-future events about the end of the world; more horrible things than have been since the creation by God, or ever will be until God ends the world.  We live in the tension between the prophecies of Jesus Christ the Son of God, the lamb who shares God's throne.  What Jesus said has either come true; or still has yet to, but will come true.

In this passage, the Holy Spirit contrasts Jesus' words about the scribes with His comments about the offering of a poor widow.

Jesus has very little respect for the scribes. He warns us not to be like them.
