In your hearts revere Christ, having a good conscience, because you have nothing to be ashamed of.  The holiness required in Exodus, is applauded in the New Testament.  The scripture calls us to be a-people-delivered from beginning to end.

Exodus 21 God's Mercy in the Face of Our Conviction

When we read the laws put forth in Exodus 21-24, we are convicted that they are fair and just.  But when we apply them to our current day with honesty and courage, there is a condemnation that falls upon most.  There is an indictment of humanity for what we have allowed to happen in our present day.

In the face of this, the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope we have of dealing with the 'death sentence' that comes with a 'guilty verdict'.

John 3:16 "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (NLT)

And we respond to this offer, from the heart.
We respond to a loving and merciful God, who must be fair as an expression of His perfect justice.
We respond to a loving God who fulfilled the requirements of the Law,
in it's living-out,
and in it's just requirement for justice against the law-breakers who have injured others.

When we are wronged, God defends.
When we are perpetrators, God enforces the consequences.
When the consequence is death, God paid the price in the life of Christ.

and this inspires prayer.

Exodus 21 What does the Lord Require?

God has told us what is good
and what does the Lord Require?
But to do Justice
and to love Kindness
and to walk humbly with our God

In Exodus 21 we see laws and penalties which show us that God is committed to Justice.
And which points us toward the cross of Christ, where justice is satisfied.

Exodus 21 God Makes Rules for Justice Very Clear

The sanctity of life is a serious thing to God.
He gives these simple rules which mark-out the way we are to deal with each other, in fairness.
And God set some serious penalties for messing up other peoples lives.

God has told us what is good
and what does the Lord Require?
But to do Justice
and to love Kindness
and to walk humbly with our God
